Mumbai, July 21: An Air India passenger flight met with an accident again. On Monday at 9:27 AM, a flight from Kochi, Kerala, skidded off the runway while landing at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai. Preliminary reports suggest that the wet runway, caused by heavy rain, may have led to the mishap.
According to NDTV, the aircraft’s wheels and one engine sustained severe damage. However, a major tragedy was narrowly avoided, as all passengers and crew on board are reported to be safe, according to airport authorities.
Immediately after the incident, emergency response teams reached the site and safely evacuated the passengers. Glass fragments were seen lodged in the rear section of the plane, and one engine showed visible signs of damage. Additionally, a section of the runway has reportedly suffered some damage.
The aircraft has been grounded for now, and a technical investigation is underway. Airport authorities have stated that the flight will not be operational again until the investigation report is received.
Questions are being raised from various quarters regarding runway safety and the decision to allow landings during continuous rainfall. The aviation authorities have announced a full investigation into the incident and assured that all necessary steps are being taken to ensure passenger safety.
