The swearing-in ceremony of 25 newly appointed additional judges of the High Court Division of the Supreme Court has been completed. On Tuesday (26 August) afternoon, Chief Justice Dr. Syed Refat Ahmed administered the oath at the Judges’ Lounge of the Supreme Court.
Prior to the oath, recitations from the Holy Quran, the Bhagavad Gita, and the Tripitaka were conducted. The ceremony was organized by Md. Moazzem Hossain, Registrar (Judicial) of the Supreme Court.
Earlier, on Monday night, a notification was issued by the Law and Justice Division under the Ministry of Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs. The appointment of the new judges became effective immediately following the oath-taking.
Details of the Appointment:
Among the 25 judges, 9 are judicial officers, 9 are practicing lawyers of the Supreme Court, and 7 are legal officers appointed as additional judges.
Following Articles 95(1) and 98 of the Constitution, the President appointed them as additional judges of the High Court Division for a term of two years, in consultation with the Chief Justice.

Md. Anwarul Islam (Shaheen), Md. Saiful Islam, Chittagong District & Sessions Judge Md. Nurul Islam, Sheikh Abu Taher, Aziz Ahmed Bhuiyan, Rajiuddin Ahmed, Faisal Hasan Arif, S.M. Saiful Islam, Md. Asif Hasan, Md. Ziaul Haque, Dihidar Masum Kabir, Jesmin Ara Begum, Murad-e-Mawla Sohel, Md. Zakir Hossain, Md. Rafizul Islam, Md. Manzur Alam, Md. Lutfor Rahman, Rezaul Karim, Fatema Anwar, Mahmud Hasan, Abdur Rahman, Syed Hasan Zubair, A.F.M. Saiful Karim, Urmi Rahman, and S.M. Iftekhar Uddin Mahmud.
With these appointments, it is expected that the functioning and efficiency of the High Court Division of the Supreme Court will be further strengthened.
