PNN News Desk: Dhaka
The verdict in a corruption case against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, her sister Sheikh Rehana, niece, and British MP Tulip Siddiq, among a total of 17 accused, will be announced on December 1. The case was filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), alleging that Sheikh Rehana was illegally allocated a 10-katha plot in the Purbachal New Town project.

Judge Md. Robiul Alam of Dhaka Special Judge Court-4 fixed the date for verdict after hearing arguments from the prosecution and defense. ACC stated that evidence shows the then Prime Minister abused power to allocate the plot to Sheikh Rehana fraudulently. Based on available evidence, the main accused could face life imprisonment.

Testimonies indicate that Sheikh Rehana applied pressure to secure the plot, and false affidavits were submitted to allocate 10 katha of government land through RAJUK. Tulip Siddiq, although not taking a plot herself, pressured the then Prime Minister on behalf of her mother, making her one of the accused. The only arrested accused, former RAJUK official Khurshid Alam, argued he was following orders. The verdict is expected to spark significant political and social discussion.
