US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has claimed “significant progress” in ongoing talks aimed at ending the Israel-Iran conflict. Earlier, US President Donald Trump also indicated that a memorandum of understanding was close to being finalized.

Speaking to journalists during his visit to India on Sunday, Rubio said that important progress has been made so far, but no final decision has yet been reached. He added that “positive news” may emerge within the next few hours.

He further said that any possible agreement will take into account US concerns regarding the security and movement in the Iran-linked Strait of Hormuz, where maritime traffic has been significantly restricted due to ongoing conflict.

Iran’s semi-official Tasnim News Agency reported that as part of a possible agreement, maritime movement in the Strait of Hormuz may gradually return to pre-war conditions. However, it may take up to 30 days to fully normalize.

The report also said that if the agreement is implemented, US naval restrictions may be lifted and some frozen Iranian assets could be released in the first phase. It may also include steps to reduce conflicts in regions including Lebanon.

According to Tasnim, after easing restrictions in the Strait of Hormuz, a new 60-day negotiation phase on Iran’s nuclear program may begin, which could later be extended by mutual agreement.

The US side said the main objective of the agreement is to reduce the risk of Iran acquiring nuclear weapons.

Experts say any change in the security of the Strait of Hormuz could directly impact global oil prices.

Both Washington and Tehran remain cautious as talks continue, and analysts believe the next few days will determine the future of the agreement.
