Third Inter-University Women’s Football Tournament Kicks Off in Khulna

The Khulna Divisional Women’s Sports Complex is hosting the third Inter-University Women’s Football Tournament. Banners and festoons decorate the well-maintained grassy field, with participating teams in a festive mood. The Khulna leg of the tournament began at 8:30 AM today.

Former national football captain Biplob Bhattacharya inaugurated the tournament by releasing colorful balloons. Attendees included Vice-Chancellors of Khulna University of Engineering & Technology and Khulna Khawaja Ahmadulla University, former national footballers Dastgir Hossain Nira and Sheikh Jahangir Hossain, and senior management of Ispahani Tea Limited.

In his speech, Khulna University of Engineering & Technology VC Dr. Maksud Helali emphasized, “Sports keep the body and mind healthy. Young people should also participate in sports.” Dr. Anisur Rahman, VC of Khulna Khawaja Ahmaduulla University, added, “There will be wins and losses; enjoy the game regardless.”

Bhattacharya highlighted the development of women’s football and expressed hope for future university-level tournaments specifically for female players.

In today’s first match, Khulna Khawaja Ahmaduulla University faced Khulna University of Engineering & Technology, with the latter winning 3-0. Abu Raihan was named player of the match for scoring two goals. The second match featured Khulna University vs Gopalganj Science & Technology University. The two winners will meet in the Khulna regional final at 2:15 PM.

The tournament is seen as a key step in fostering sports culture and unveiling women’s football talent in the Khulna region.
