Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian announced that he has instructed the country’s diplomats to seek talks with the United States. With the recent decrease in the risk of military conflict, a potential window for diplomatic engagement between the two countries has emerged.

Pezeshkian wrote on social media on Tuesday that he instructed the Foreign Minister to pursue “fair and equitable discussions,” with the condition that the environment be free from threats and unrealistic expectations. He also emphasized that discussions would adhere to principles of dignity, wisdom, and timely decision-making.

Iran has already announced that it is reviewing diplomatic processes proposed by some regional countries, including Qatar, Turkey, Egypt, and Oman. The goal of this process is to reduce tensions with the United States. According to reports, a round of talks may take place in Istanbul on Friday, with U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi participating.

Previously, the U.S. had deployed warships in the Middle East, and President Donald Trump issued several threats. However, over the weekend, indirect messages between both sides indicated progress in behind-the-scenes diplomatic efforts.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said, “Regional countries are now playing a mediating role through message exchanges. Every stage of the discussion process is being reviewed and finalized, and we hope it will conclude in the coming days.”

According to Fars news agency, Pezeshkian has instructed the resumption of talks regarding Iran’s nuclear program, though no dates have been set yet. Tasnim news agency reported that Araghchi will meet with Witkoff in the context of these discussions.

This diplomatic step by Iran is being seen internationally as an effort for a peaceful resolution, although the situation remains sensitive. U.S. and European leaders have long been concerned that Iran could develop nuclear weapons, while Iran repeatedly asserts that its program is intended solely for civilian purposes.
