PNN News Desk | Dhaka:
The Teachers and Employees Unity Alliance has demanded that the BNP allocate at least five percent of parliamentary nominations to leaders from their organization in the upcoming national election. The demand specifically includes six leaders, among them Chairman Principal Md. Selim Bhuiyan (also BNP’s Comilla Divisional Organizing Secretary) and General Secretary Md. Zakir Hossain.

At a press conference held on Saturday (November 8) at the Dhaka Reporters Unity, the alliance leaders made the announcement.
They stated that under the leadership of Principal Selim Bhuiyan, the Teachers and Employees Unity Alliance has become the largest professional organization in Bangladesh. Thousands of teachers, they claimed, faced harassment, lawsuits, and imprisonment for participating in movements against the “fascist government.”

General Secretary Md. Zakir Hossain said, “We sacrificed our jobs and endured imprisonment under the Awami fascist regime to restore democracy. Teachers are essential in building a new Bangladesh. Therefore, our leaders deserve nominations.”

He further noted that internal surveys show that almost all teacher candidates enjoy strong local popularity in their constituencies, and some were nominated in previous elections.

Notable nomination hopefuls include:

  • Principal Md. Selim Bhuiyan (Comilla-2)

  • Md. Zakir Hossain (Meherpur-1)

  • Principal Alomgir Hossain (Pirojpur Sadar)

  • Akhtarul Alam Master (Gazipur-3)

  • Professor Manjurul Islam (Dinajpur-2)

  • A.K.M. Abdul Awal (Tangail-4)

Leaders from various levels of the alliance were present at the press conference. They emphasized that including teachers in the nomination process would ensure the true representation of students, parents, and the general public.
