Shubman Gill Withdraws from Kolkata Test Due to Neck Injury

In the first session of the second day of the Kolkata Test, India captain Shubman Gill went out to bat but suffered a neck injury and ultimately could not continue. After scoring 4 runs off 3 balls, Gill retired hurt and left the field. He did not bat in the first innings.

From the morning of Saturday (15 November), Lokesh Rahul (13 runs) and Washington Sundar (6 runs) were at the crease. The day started well, but Sundar was dismissed after scoring 29 runs at a team total of 75.

Gill then came to the crease, hit a four in three balls, felt discomfort, and the physio provided immediate treatment. He then left the field.

India ended the first innings at 189 runs, losing 9 wickets in 62.2 overs. Due to his injury, Gill did not bat in the second innings, and South Africa started their second innings with a 30-run lead. At tea break, their score was 25/2.

This injury is a significant blow for India as their captain could not play a crucial role for the team.
