The match was organized as part of Angola’s 50th independence anniversary celebrations, with a cost of approximately 15.9 billion BDT. Despite being ranked 88 places lower, Angola showed fighting spirit and mounted counterattacks, but failed to score.
Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni rested several regular players to keep the team strong. After missing several chances in the first half, Lautaro Martínez scored the first goal in the 44th minute from a pass by Lionel Messi, who found him in space on the right side.
After halftime, Argentina’s attack intensified. Kevin Mac Allister made his national team debut in the 58th minute. Although Angola goalkeeper Hugo Marques saved multiple attacks, Messi scored the second goal in the 81st minute from a return pass by De Paul. Messi was substituted five minutes later.
Angola had one last chance to score but Carneiro missed the target. Argentina won the match 2–0. Their next match will be against Spain in the Finalissima tournament in March.
