Real Madrid plans share sale to boost finances, fans divided

Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez recently announced that private investors will be able to purchase up to 10% of the club’s shares. However, this decision has divided fans.

Some fans view it as selling part of the club, despite Real Madrid being one of the richest football clubs in the world. Others see the move as reasonable, strengthening the club’s financial position and ensuring long-term success.

Pérez stated that the share process for private investors will be an “unstoppable future project” safeguarding the club’s future. Investors are required to respect the club’s values and resources and assist in its growth and protection.

He also clarified that club members will remain the primary owners, with a subsidiary managing the investment, where a maximum of 10% can be held by investors, while 100,000 members retain ultimate control.

Clubs like Real Madrid and Barcelona are member-owned non-profit organizations, making it difficult for foreign investors to control them and providing tax benefits.

According to Pérez, even if investors buy shares, club control will remain with members. The new system will allow members to receive dividends, which is currently impossible.

Fan reactions are mixed: some fear this may alter the club’s heritage and character, while others believe that 5–10% shareholding will not change the club’s core identity. High-profile businessman Bernard Arnault is reportedly on the list of potential investors. Meanwhile, star players Kylian Mbappé and Vinicius Jr. remain crucial on the field.

Pérez’s initiative is expected to preserve the tradition of Spanish clubs while ensuring financial transparency and long-term stability.
