Even after taking office, the newly elected leadership of Rajshahi University Central Students’ Union (RAKSU) is concerned about the incomplete records of the union’s funds. The administration has no information on funds prior to 2013, prompting tough questions from the new leaders.

At a press conference in front of the RAKSU building on Wednesday (5 November), Vice President Mostakur Rahman Zahid said the first executive meeting was held yesterday after their oath-taking. The primary discussion was how to use RAKSU funds effectively.

RAKSU General Secretary Salman Sabbir read a statement highlighting, “Although we have swiftly drafted an action plan, the financial accounts necessary for implementing it are still unclear. The administration is unable to provide this information.”

RAKSU alleges that past presidents and treasurers spent funds arbitrarily. Therefore, a committee has been formed to investigate ‘who spent what and how to recover it,’ with work expected to finish within 15 working days.

GS Salahuddin Amma added that bank statements exist from 2013 onward, and online records from 2021, but nearly 22 years of data from 1990–2013 are missing. Funds were used for events like the Mujib Centenary, but details are lacking.

VP Zahid stated, “If the accounts had been clear before the election, the new representatives could have immediately started activities, but the lack of information now raises concerns about implementing plans.”

The 15th RAKSU election was held on 16 October after a 35-year gap since the 14th election in 1988–89, and the new leadership has assumed responsibilities.
