Gazi M.H. Tamim, Prosecutor of the International Crimes Tribunal, has stated that following the death sentences of the ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal in the July genocide case, the process to issue Interpol Red Notices for their return to the country has begun.
Speaking to reporters on Tuesday afternoon, Gazi Tamim said that copies of the death sentence verdicts are already being sent to the Ministries of Home and Foreign Affairs, IGP Baharul Alam, and former Rajshahi IGP Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun.
Prosecutor Tamim also mentioned that if Sheikh Hasina and Kamal wish to challenge the tribunal’s verdict, they should surrender within 30 days and file an appeal in the Appellate Division. If they fail to appeal within this timeframe, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will notify Interpol to implement their death sentences.
He stated that the main purpose of this measure is to enforce the tribunal’s verdict and uphold respect for the country’s legal process.
