Police Officer Sent to Jail in Rangpur Over Motorcycle Theft Allegation

A temporarily suspended police officer has been sent to jail by court in Rangpur city on charges of motorcycle theft. The arrested officer, Moniruzzaman (41), was attached to the Rangpur Police Line and hails from Hakimpur Upazila in Dinajpur.

He was presented in court on Tuesday (25 November), where the judge denied bail and sent him to jail. Earlier, in the early hours of Sunday, Moniruzzaman was caught by locals near Khalifapara for allegedly stealing a Suzuki Gixxer 155cc motorcycle.

According to the case, the motorcycle, parked outside a store near Khalifapara Banani Jame Mosque, was reported missing by owner Redwan Ahmed Mim after a brief absence. CCTV footage helped locals identify the thief, who was caught along with the stolen motorcycle in the Nozorherhat area.

During questioning, Moniruzzaman admitted involvement with an unknown accomplice named ‘Krishna,’ whose identity remains unknown. Citing the theft, Kotwali Thana Inspector Rafiqul Islam Rofiq confirmed that a regular case has been filed against the suspended officer.
