In the last 24 hours, police operations across the country led to the arrest of 1,649 individuals. Firearms, gunpowder, ammunition, and cocktail bombs were also recovered.
According to a WhatsApp message from the police headquarters’ media unit, 10 firearms and approximately 30.5 kg of gunpowder were recovered in one day. Several cocktail bombs and other explosives were also seized.
Police sources said the operations were conducted in response to sabotage and violent incidents in different regions over the past week. Following the July verdicts in the killings, unrest, including arson attacks on vehicles, occurred in Dhaka and other areas.
After the tribunal sentenced ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal to death and former IGP Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun to five years’ imprisonment, tensions rose in various regions. Police have intensified vigilance to maintain security and prevent further sabotage.
These operations play a key role in ensuring citizen safety and preventing violent activities across the country.
