Pickup van of Jamaat leader set on fire in Chouddogram

In Chouddogram, unknown assailants set fire to a parked pickup van early Monday morning (17 November) near the northern Falgunkara road adjacent to Chouddogram Bazar on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway.

Eyewitnesses said two youths arrived on a motorcycle, poured petrol on the vehicle, set it on fire, and fled the scene. Locals rushed to help, and the van’s owner, Fazlul Haque Molla, along with fire service personnel, managed to bring the fire under control. By then, most of the vehicle was destroyed.

OC Mohammad Hilal Uddin Ahmed of Chouddogram Thana said the arson appeared deliberate. Authorities are investigating and security has been increased.

Fazlul Haque Molla, a local Jamaat leader and the van owner, said the van was parked for daily business, but it was intentionally set on fire before he could use it for a fish transport trip. He demanded immediate arrest and strict punishment for the culprits.

The incident has caused tension in the area. Police are reviewing CCTV footage and questioning locals to identify the attackers quickly.
