Staff Report: PNN
The Election Commission (EC) has announced the suspension of all National ID (NID) services indefinitely as part of preparations for the upcoming 13th national parliamentary election and the simultaneous referendum. The decision came into effect on Monday from 4 PM.

Md. Saiful Islam, Director (Operations) of the National Registration Subdivision, stated that the temporary suspension of NID services is necessary to ensure smooth technical work related to the preparation of voter list CDs and other election-related tasks. He mentioned that new registrations, data corrections, reissuance of lost NIDs, and online verification services will all remain suspended during this period.

According to EC sources, various phases of preparation have already begun to ensure the joint conduct of the national election and referendum in the first half of February. Priority is being given to updating NID data and preparing accurate voter lists. However, the Commission has not yet announced when NID services will resume. A further announcement will be made based on the situation.
