Around 60–70 guests attended the BUP’s inaugural ceremony, including at least 25 members of the media.
In his speech, party Chairman Md. Zakir Hossain said that the party aims to institutionalize democracy in Bangladesh, protect the rights of the people, establish economic balance, ensure the rule of law, and build a modern Bangladesh.
He further stated that the party committee has already been formed in at least 20 districts and more than 100 upazilas across the country. “Among the leaders and activists present at this event, around 70–80 were here; the rest remain in their respective areas,” he said. He added, “There is no need to bring all leaders to Dhaka, as it only increases traffic congestion.”
The BUP leaders also mentioned that the party’s political office is located in Shewrapara, Dhaka. However, the party has not yet finalized its constitution. They have applied to the Election Commission to register the party under the symbol ‘Rocket.’ Although the party is not officially registered yet, the Chairman confirmed that BUP leaders and activists plan to participate in the upcoming 13th National Parliament elections.
This launch is part of a continuing trend of new political parties emerging after the mass uprising on 5 August 2024. The BUP has emerged at a time when several new parties have been established in the country.
