NBR Publishes English Versions of Customs and VAT Laws for Investors

For the convenience of foreign investors and domestic taxpayers, the National Board of Revenue (NBR) has published the English versions of the Customs Act and the Value Added Tax (VAT) Act. The announcement was made via press release on Thursday (20 November). The English version of the Income Tax Act had been published in mid-October.

NBR explained that the three major revenue laws—VAT, Customs, and Income Tax—had lacked authentic English texts, causing difficulties for investors, professional firms, researchers, and analysts. The English versions were published in response to these demands.

NBR stated that the English texts will allow investors to correctly understand the laws, especially regarding VAT, supplementary duty, Customs, and Income Tax regulations. Publishing the English versions is expected to increase confidence in the country’s revenue laws, reduce ambiguities, and strengthen Bangladesh’s investor-friendly environment.
