Mutilated Body of Young Man Recovered from Pond in Noakhali’s Begumganj

Police recovered the mutilated body of a young man from a pond in Begumganj upazila of Noakhali. Officials said the man was beaten and hacked to death.

The deceased was identified as Abdul Kader Jilani (35), son of the late Gofran Mia of Hajipur village under Chaumuhani municipality in Begumganj. His body was found in a pond near Sareng Bari gate, located between Hajipur and Sharifpur unions.

Sub-Inspector Kutub Uddin Khan of Begumganj Police Station visited the scene and said Jilani was known locally for alleged involvement in criminal activities. Preliminary investigation suggests he was killed by rivals in a turf war and his body was dumped in the pond.

The body was sent for autopsy to Noakhali 250-bed General Hospital morgue.

Begumganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Liton Dewan told Prothom Alo that Jilani was accused in four cases related to drug dealing and assault. No formal complaint had been filed by the family as of Saturday morning. Legal action will be taken once a complaint is lodged.

Police said they are working with locals to identify the killers and bring them to justice.
