A man was killed early Saturday after being hit by a car in Uttara’s Azampur area of the capital. The deceased, identified as Yusuf Hossain (32), was a fish trader.
The accident occurred around 4:00 a.m. near the BNS Flyover in Uttara while Yusuf was transporting fish.
Yusuf’s ancestral home is in Gauripur upazila of Mymensingh, but he had been living for several years in the Dewanbari area near Azampur kitchen market in Uttara.
According to Yusuf’s brother-in-law, Saidul Islam, Yusuf was crossing the road with his van loaded with fish around 4:15 a.m. when a speeding car hit him and fled the scene.
Locals rescued Yusuf and first took him to a private hospital in Uttara. Later, he was shifted to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) emergency unit, where doctors declared him dead at around 5:30 a.m.
Inspector Md. Faruk, in charge of the DMCH police camp, said the body has been kept in the hospital morgue.
Police have contacted the victim’s family and started an investigation. They said efforts are underway to identify and arrest the driver responsible for the accident.
