Young opener Mahmudul Hasan Joy showcased his skill on home soil, scoring a superb century in the ongoing Test series against Ireland. Facing 190 balls, the 24-year-old reached three figures with nine fours and one six.
At the time of reporting, Joy was unbeaten on 127, while Mominul Haque was batting at 54. Their partnership helped Bangladesh reach 265 for 1, just 21 runs behind Ireland’s first-innings total of 286.
Joy had made his Test debut in March 2022 in Durban, South Africa, scoring a century. He was out of the national team for a long period, managing only three fifties in 30 matches, losing his place. However, consistent domestic performance earned him a return to the national team, and he proved himself again.
Today, Joy and Sadman Islam put on a 168-run opening partnership, the highest in Bangladesh’s Test history in the past decade. Analysts say this innings could mark a new chapter for both the team and Joy’s career. His focus and composure have strengthened confidence in Bangladesh’s top-order batting.
