Brazil have made a late change to their World Cup squad due to injury. Young defender Wesley has been ruled out of the tournament, and midfielder Ederson has been called up as his replacement.
The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) confirmed in an official statement that Wesley will miss the World Cup due to injury. The federation also wished him a speedy recovery.
Wesley suffered a thigh muscle injury during a recent friendly match against Egypt in the United States. He had to leave the field during the game, and subsequent medical tests confirmed that he would not recover in time for the tournament.
The 21-year-old defender is considered one of Brazil’s promising future assets. His absence is being seen as a major setback for the team ahead of the global tournament.
Ederson, who replaces him, has limited experience with the national team but has been performing consistently at club level. He has played three matches for Brazil so far.
Currently playing for Italian club Atalanta, Ederson has impressed in European football and attracted attention from several top clubs. His work rate, ball control, and ability to balance defense and attack have earned him recognition.
He has been a key player for Atalanta and was also part of their Europa League success.
Although this change may slightly affect Brazil’s World Cup plans, the coaching staff believes Ederson can quickly adapt and contribute effectively. Brazil, aiming for their sixth World Cup title, now look to move forward despite the setback.
