Police in Lower Dir, Pakistan, have arrested five suspects in connection with a gun attack at the house of national cricket team pacer Naseem Shah. Pakistani news outlet Geo Super reported the incident on Monday.
According to sources, the assailants fired at the gate and windows of Naseem’s house early Monday morning. No one was injured in the attack. Naseem was in Rawalpindi at the time, joining the Pakistan team for a One Day International (ODI) series against Sri Lanka.
Police said the attackers targeted the main gate and windows of the house, and a parked car was also damaged. The five suspects were apprehended at the scene, and a case has been filed at Mayar Police Station. Investigations are ongoing to identify and arrest other individuals involved.
A police spokesperson stated that preliminary investigations suggest the attack was likely not a terrorist act but could be related to land disputes or local enmity. CCTV footage from the area is also under review.
The first ODI against Sri Lanka will take place in Rawalpindi, followed by the second and third matches on 13 and 15 November. After the series, Naseem will participate in a triangular series representing Pakistan, with Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe also participating.
Police and security forces have heightened vigilance and will take additional steps to prevent similar incidents in the future.
