Google announced on Monday that Gemini is being gradually rolled out on Google TV streamers, replacing Google Assistant. The tech giant says this update will allow users to access content more naturally through voice and perform many other tasks.

For example, users can now ask, “I like dramas, but my wife prefers comedy. Which movie can we watch together?” or “What happened in the last season of Outlander?”—to quickly get updates before resuming a show. They can also ask, “Which new hospital drama is trending among everyone?”

Google says Gemini is not just for entertainment; it can also assist with general questions, just like it can on phones. Users can ask questions such as, “Explain to my third grader why volcanoes erupt.” Gemini can also help users learn projects or cooking recipes using YouTube videos.

To use Gemini on a Google TV streamer, users need to press the microphone button on the remote. Google stated that the update will roll out gradually over the next few weeks for users aged 18 and above.

Earlier in September, Google announced that Gemini would launch on select TCL devices, and later in 2025 it will be available on Hisense U7, U8, UX, and TCL QM7, QM8, and X11 models. Gemini will also be available on Walmart’s Onn 4K Pro streaming device.

Google emphasized that this change is not sudden; the plan is to gradually replace Google Assistant with Gemini across all devices and platforms.
