Even after 25 years since Bangladesh’s Test cricket debut, significant progress in decentralization and journalist engagement has not been achieved. To address this, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) organized the first-ever Bangladesh Cricket Conference. Around 250 coaches, councillors, women entrepreneur representatives, and sports officials from eight divisions and 64 districts attended the two-day conference.

During the opening day press conference, BCB President Aminul Islam Bulbul announced that on the second day, during the 25-year Test anniversary celebration, sports journalists would also be invited to participate in a cake-cutting ceremony. However, the event held yesterday afternoon at a Dhaka hotel told a different story.

Although journalists were invited to the cake-cutting at 4 pm, over an hour passed without any briefing or information. BCB officials cut the cake inside while journalists remained outside the venue.

This incident reflects a pattern seen on the first day of the conference, when BCB officials arrived half an hour late for the press briefing. After two consecutive days of such behavior, the attending sports journalists announced a collective boycott of the press conference.

The journalists expressed dissatisfaction with BCB’s conduct and demanded greater transparency and participation in future events.
