A female student of Dhaka University has accused a student of Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP) of assault, harassment, and blackmail. The accused is Istihak Ahmed, a Marketing Batch–8 student. The victim filed two separate complaints at Pallabi and Shahbagh police stations on Friday (21 November).

According to the complaint, Istihak had been harassing her for a long time. Initially, they were acquaintances, but later developed a romantic relationship. Following this, Istihak allegedly pressured her for physical relations, made inappropriate proposals, collected private photos, and tried to spend time with her privately.

Due to mental harassment, the student became physically ill and was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital on 11 November. On 12 November, Istihak allegedly took her mobile phone and collected personal photos and videos.

On 17 November, claiming to resolve the matter, Istihak reportedly called her to Pallabi DHS Shopping Complex, verbally abused her, hit her multiple times on the cheeks, head, back, and arms, pulled her clothes, and assaulted her. When bystanders intervened, Istihak fled. The victim received primary treatment the next day.

The student fears Istihak may use her personal photos and videos to blackmail her.

Istihak’s father, Kamruzzaman, denied the allegations, claiming, “My son is being framed. The girl hit him first, and he only defended himself.”

SI Masudur Rahman, the investigating officer of Pallabi Police Station, stated that a complaint has been received and investigation is ongoing. Appropriate action will be taken based on the findings.
