Ehteshamul Haque Shawon, Assistant Secretary General of the Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) and member of the Khulna Press Club, along with Kamrul Moni, Treasurer of the Khulna Crime Reporters Association and Sub-Editor of Daily Probaho, were brutally attacked by assailants.
The incident occurred today (Saturday, November 8) around 3:15 PM in front of Sultan Dine Restaurant near Shibbari Mor. Witnesses said that despite several calls to 999, the police failed to arrive even after 30 minutes.
Both journalists were later taken to a nearby hospital by locals. Their families and colleagues have strongly condemned the attack and demanded the immediate arrest and exemplary punishment of the perpetrators.
Local journalist organizations have described the assault as a serious threat to press freedom, saying, “Ensuring the safety of journalists who report the truth is the government’s responsibility. Such attacks can never be tolerated.”
