Speaking at a brief gathering in Shahbagh at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, he made these remarks. Later, a rally was organized under the banner “Protest Against Conspiracy to Sabotage Genocide Trials and Anti-National Activities,” which moved from Shahbagh towards Gulistan.
Sharif Osman Hadi said, “Awami League’s connection to Bangladesh has long been severed. Sheikh Hasina is in Delhi, her children are abroad, and here people are mobilized with minimal money. If they had any connection with the people, they would face mass resistance at home, not abroad.”
He also alleged that the Awami League has always used politics as a cover for anarchy and terror, accusing them of historically using violence during movements and later blaming BNP-Jamaat for their created violence over the past 15 years.
Sharif Hadi claimed that the International Crimes Tribunal has been used as a tool by the Awami League. “The court was created by Sheikh Hasina. If she thinks justice will not prevail there, she can go to the international criminal court,” he said.
Warning BNP and other political parties, he said, “Those parties demanding withdrawal of Awami League cases are essentially bribed and preparing their rehabilitation. No one should attempt to re-establish Awami League politics in the country.”
Fatima Tasnim Zuma, Secretary for Liberation War and Democratic Movements of DUCSU, also spoke at the gathering, stating, “Last year’s July–August mass uprising was the result of anti-fascist struggle. In the future, the country’s youth will continue to rise against any dictatorship.”
