Apple stated that the design was inspired by the concept of “a piece of cloth,” with the product crafted from a single piece of fabric. Although the price may seem high, it is considered reasonable in the fashion industry.
The product is designed by Japanese designer Issei Miyake, who introduced the “APOC” (“a piece of cloth”) concept in 1997, showcasing innovative, technology-driven fashion with minimal fabric. The ribbed mesh structure of the iPhone Pocket reflects the aesthetics of pleats, allowing a partial view of the phone display from the open fabric section.
Miyake had a long-standing friendship with Steve Jobs, who had consulted him on Apple employee uniform designs. Although Miyake passed away in 2022, his label produced this product.
The crossbody size is available in three colors, following current trends in phone accessories. The smaller, more affordable version with color variety is expected to be popular, comparable to novelty items like Labubu toys, serving as both a fun and fashionable accessory.
With increasing use of tap-to-pay technology and phone-based wallets, small phone bags or cloth slings are growing in popularity. The iPhone Pocket could become a unique blend of fashion and practicality, especially as a gift during the 2026 holiday season.
