PNN News Desk:
South African batsman and fielder Aiden Markram set a world record for the most catches in a single Test match. Batting-wise, he scored 38 runs off 81 balls in the first innings and 29 runs off 84 balls in the second, but his fielding performance was remarkable.

Markram took a total of 9 catches across both innings against India, surpassing the previous record of 8 catches by India’s Ajinkya Rahane against Sri Lanka in 2015. He took 5 catches in the slips during the first innings and 4 catches (3 in slips and 1 in the gully) in the second.

Other players with 7 catches in a single match include Lokesh Rahul (2018, England) and Yuzvendra Singh (1977, England), as well as legends like Greg Chappell, Matthew Hayden, Stephen Fleming, and Hashan Tillakaratne. Bangladesh’s record is 5 catches in a single match by Soumya Sarkar and Sadman Islam.

During the Guwahati Test, India finished the fourth day at 2 wickets for 27 runs while chasing South Africa’s 549-run target. On the fifth day, India reached 138/7 with Ravindra Jadeja and Nitish Kumar at the crease.
