Staff Reporter | PNN:
Madock Films’ new entry in the horror-comedy universe, Thama, was recently released during Diwali. Directed by Aditya Sarpothdar, the film blends ghost comedy with romance, delighting audiences. The romantic pair in the film is Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna.

On its opening day, the movie earned ₹24 crore at the box office. In its first week, domestic earnings reached ₹100 crore. Although earnings dipped slightly in the second weekend, by Sunday, the film had earned a total of ₹120 crore in India and approximately $2.8 million internationally. In 13 days, the worldwide gross reached around ₹167 crore.

Analysts note that with a budget of roughly ₹150 crore, the film will only be considered a “clean hit” if net earnings surpass ₹150 crore. Earnings dropped to ₹12 crore in the second weekend, so more momentum is needed to meet the target.

However, including revenue from OTT, satellite, and music rights, the film has already recovered its costs, making it commercially profitable for Madock Films.

Story-wise, Thama introduces a new narrative to the Madock horror-comedy universe, featuring tales of vampires or spirits. Alongside Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna, Nawazuddin Siddiqui plays the main antagonist.

Based on box office reports and audience reactions, Thama has already gained popularity, but to be officially declared a “hit,” it will need further earnings in the coming days.
