At 10:36 a.m. today, a 3.3 magnitude earthquake was felt in the Baipayl area of Gazipur. Nizamuddin Ahmed, an official at the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD), confirmed the information.
Assistant meteorologist Kazi Zebunnesa reported that the earthquake occurred at 10:36:12 a.m.
Yesterday, a stronger earthquake was felt across the country, including the capital Dhaka, killing 10 people, including children, and injuring over 600. The most fatalities occurred in Narsingdi (5 deaths), while four died in Dhaka and one in Narayanganj. During the quake, panicked people jumped from buildings, some structures developed cracks, and a few buildings tilted.
The epicenter of yesterday’s earthquake was Madhabdi in Narsingdi. Today’s Baipayl earthquake had coordinates 23.77° N latitude and 90.51° E longitude. Experts have warned that aftershocks are likely due to recent seismic activity and have urged the public to remain alert.
