A human chain organized by the Democratic Student Alliance in Khulna to demand the release of Baul Abul Sarker and protest the destruction of various shrines and dargahs across the country was attacked, and several activists were injured. Attackers tore banners and set them on fire. The incident occurred despite police presence.

Local sources said the incident took place Wednesday afternoon at Shivbari Mor. Leaders of the Democratic Student Alliance stated that the protest was part of nationwide programs against shrine destruction. At the event, a rival group called “Student–Janata” appeared and declared a counter-protest.

Eyewitnesses reported that around 3:30 PM, preparations for the human chain were underway. At 5 PM, as activists took to the street with banners, the attackers began assaulting them with sticks and fists. Several people were injured, and banners were set on fire.

Sajib Khan, general secretary of the district unit, told reporters, “We gathered at Shivbari at 3 PM. Despite police presence, a planned attack occurred around 5 PM. The attackers were affiliated with the ruling party and its student wing.”

Foyzullah Shakil, joint convener of the ruling party’s Khulna branch, claimed, “One of our workers was attacked, and we intervened to control the situation.”

Sonadanga Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Kabir Hossain said, “Members of ‘Student and General Public’ joined the human chain and attacked leftist students. A few were injured but none seriously. Police quickly controlled the situation. No written complaint about banner burning has been received. We have urged everyone to remain calm.”
