PNN News Desk | Dhaka:
Students of the proposed Dhaka Central University have been on a hunger strike for 25 continuous hours, demanding the completion of the 2024-25 academic session admission process and the commencement of classes. They continued their protest into the second day.

On Thursday (30 October) at 11:00 AM, six students were seen holding a hunger strike in front of the main gate of Dhaka College. All six are students of the proposed Dhaka Central University for the 2024-25 academic year. They had also continued the protest overnight.

During the hunger strike, two students fell ill and were admitted to the hospital. Leaders from Dhaka College’s branch of Chhatra Dal, Chhatra Shibir, Jatiya Chhatra Shakti, Samajtantrik Chhatra Front, and Chhatra Odhikar Parishad were present, showing solidarity with the students’ movement.

The students stated that the admission process was supposed to be completed and classes started by 30 October, but the date has now been postponed to December. While classes and exams are ongoing at other universities and admission dates for the 2025-26 session have been announced, the admission process for the 2024-25 session students has yet to be completed. Despite informing the interim administrator of Dhaka Central University about starting classes, the students received no assurances.

The students further declared that their hunger strike will continue until classes commence.
