Actress Sonam Bajwa, known for the Hindi film “Ek Diwane Ki Diwaniyat”, is currently in the spotlight more for her personal life than her films. Born in August 1989 in Rudrapur, Uttarakhand, Sonam had a very ordinary childhood. Her parents were teachers, and from a young age, she was interested in modeling.
In 2012, Sonam participated in a nationwide beauty pageant and reached the finals, though she did not win. This marked a turning point in her life. In 2013, she got her first acting opportunity in a Punjabi-language film, which made her an overnight sensation. She later acted in Tamil and Telugu films as well.
Despite receiving multiple offers from Bollywood, Sonam Bajwa turned them down. The main reason was the presence of kissing scenes in many films, which she feared might not be acceptable to her Punjabi audience and her family. In an interview, she explained, “Punjabi culture is quite close-knit with family and friends, and movies are watched together. I worried about what my family would think if I did kissing scenes. Would it affect my popularity?”
At one point, Sonam discussed this with her mother, who told her, “If it’s for the film, it’s okay.” This conversation completely changed Sonam’s perspective, making her realize that her family’s mindset was different from what she had feared.
Sonam faced significant challenges in Bollywood. She had signed with a major production company, but eventually the directors of her films backed out. She said, “I felt embarrassed, but my parents simply told me, ‘If it’s for the movie, there’s nothing wrong with it.’”
On the personal front, Sonam’s name has been linked to several individuals. In 2020, she secretly married a pilot named Rakshit Agnihotri, though the relationship ended later. Her name has also been associated with Indian cricket stars KL Rahul and Shubman Gill, which caused a media stir at the time.
Sonam’s latest film, “Ek Diwane Ki Diwaniyat”, has been released, yet her personal life continues to be a focal point of public interest. Fans and the media remain curious about how she balances her career and personal life.
