International Desk | PNN:
A 44-year-old man was killed and several others injured in Russia’s attacks on Ukraine’s southern Zaporizhia region, according to Governor Ivan Fedorov. The number of casualties is rising across Ukraine following Sunday’s attacks.

Ukrainian officials reported that two people were killed in the eastern Donetsk region and a 69-year-old person died in the northern Sumy region. In Sumy, 15 more people were injured, including two children, according to local police.

Ukraine’s military intelligence agency (HUR) claimed that Lieutenant Vasiliy Marzoyev, the son of a Russian general, was killed by a guided aerial bomb. Al Jazeera could not independently verify this report.

In Russia’s Bryansk region, a Ukrainian drone attack on the village of Pogar killed the driver of a Russian minibus and injured five passengers, according to the Russian state news agency TASS. Bryansk Governor Alexander Bogomaz confirmed the report.

The Russian Ministry of Defense claimed that its forces captured the village of Yehorivka in Ukraine’s Dnipropetrovsk region. However, the Ukrainian news agency Ukrinform reported that Ukrainian forces had driven the Russian soldiers out of the village. Meanwhile, TASS claimed that Russia also captured the villages of Novomykolaivka and Pryvolnoye in Zaporizhia, though Al Jazeera could not independently verify this.

A United Nations report stated that Russia’s drone attacks are being used as a deliberate policy to drive civilians out of Ukrainian areas, which could constitute a war crime. The report noted that Russian drones often track civilians over long distances with cameras and sometimes strike with incendiary or explosive devices.

Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that he had urged Russian President Vladimir Putin to end the war in Ukraine and noted that a U.S. nuclear submarine is stationed near Russia’s coast.

Russian press secretary Dmitry Peskov said that Russia has done nothing to worsen relations with the United States and is acting in accordance with its national interests.

Lithuanian Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė said Monday that they would shoot down smuggling balloons coming from Belarus, as they repeatedly disrupt Baltic airspace. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen described the balloons as “provocative” and a “hybrid threat.”

A report by Ukraine’s military intelligence agency stated that Russia has collected 68 foreign components from countries including China, Japan, the Netherlands, South Korea, Switzerland, Taiwan, the United Kingdom, and the United States, which are used in the production of Russian missiles and other weapons.

This situation is further escalating tensions between Ukraine and Russia, making international reaction and pressure increasingly critical.
