PNN News Desk | Gopalganj:
Two separate petrol bomb attacks occurred in Gopalganj in a single night. In the early hours of Thursday (13 November), unidentified miscreants threw homemade bombs at the Public Works Department office on Model School Road and at a branch of Grameen Bank in Ulpur, Sadar Upazila, before fleeing the scenes.

A pickup van at the Public Works Department was completely burned in the incident. Later, office staff and local residents managed to control the fire.

A Public Works Department official said that around 4:30 a.m., several petrol bombs were suddenly thrown inside the office premises, setting a government vehicle on fire. Immediate action prevented large-scale damage.

Meanwhile, around 2 a.m., the attackers threw 5–6 petrol bombs at the Ulpur Grameen Bank branch. Although one bomb caught fire, the bank staff quickly extinguished it.

Gopalganj Sadar police officer-in-charge (OC) Shah Alam said, “We visited the scene immediately after receiving the news. The situation is under control, and extra patrols have been deployed across the city.”

The overall environment in the district has been tense due to the lockdown called by the Awami League. Police have been deployed at the city’s entry points and important intersections, and intelligence surveillance has been increased.

Local administration stated that the petrol bomb attacks may have been a planned act of sabotage, and joint investigations by the police and intelligence agencies have begun to identify the culprits.
