Notorious 'Kabjikata Group' Aide and Gang Leader ‘Tunda Babu’ Arrested in Gopalganj

Staff Reporter, PNN: Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested Md. Babu Khan, alias Tunda Babu (31), a key associate of the infamous ‘Kabjikata Group’ and a prominent youth gang leader from Mohammadpur, Dhaka. He was apprehended on Wednesday in the Kashiani area of Gopalganj, RAB announced in a press briefing held on Thursday at its Media Centre in Karwan Bazar.

According to RAB-2 Director Md. Khalidul Haque Howlader, Tunda Babu has been involved in extortion, drug trafficking, land grabbing, theft, robbery, and various violent crimes in and around Mohammadpur. During primary interrogation, Babu confessed to working directly under Anwar alias ‘Kabjikata Anwar’, the ringleader of the Kabjikata Group.

Tunda Babu and his gang were known to operate in small groups during daytime, ambushing pedestrians in low-traffic areas to rob them of cash, mobile phones, laptops, vanity bags, and other valuables. At night, they would raid homes and apartments at gunpoint, and also loot travelers by stopping vehicles.

On February 18, Tunda Babu was seen conducting an armed “showdown” in Shyamoli Housing Project Block 2, alongside teen gang members—a moment captured in viral CCTV footage. He was arrested on February 24, but after being released on bail on May 5, resumed his criminal activities, RAB stated.

Over 10 criminal cases, including murder, attempted murder, robbery, and drug dealing, are currently pending against him in multiple police stations across the capital.

The arrest is part of a broader crackdown by RAB-2 in Mohammadpur, which recently led to the capture of Bhunia Sohel, a known drug dealer and criminal; Selim Ashrafi alias Chua Selim, head of the Chua Selim Group; and Shooter Anwar alias Kabjikata Anwar, leader of the Kabjikata Group, along with several associates.
