In a surprise move in Jamalpur politics, Md. Doulatuzzaman Ansari, central vice president of Krishak Dal, joined Islami Andolan Bangladesh. He met the party’s Amir, Mufti Syed Mohammad Rezaul Karim, on Wednesday afternoon to begin his new political journey.

Doulatuzzaman, from Chobilapur, Ghosherpara Union, Melandah Upazila, had long been part of Krishak Dal’s central leadership. He resigned on Tuesday night citing personal reasons, raising questions among party colleagues.

Local sources indicate that Doulatuzzaman had sought BNP nomination for Jamalpur-3 (Melandah-Madariganj) and had already put up posters. Uncertainty over nomination within the party is believed to have led him to switch parties.

Melandah Upazila BNP general secretary Manjurul Kabir said, “We have heard of his resignation. However, a leader leaving the party will not affect BNP’s local organization or national election preparation.”

Islami Andolan Bangladesh Jamalpur district president Mufti Mostafa Kamal said discussions with Doulatuzzaman had been ongoing for three to four months and he formally joined the party today.

Attempts to contact Doulatuzzaman for his statement were unsuccessful as his phone was switched off.
