Denmark-based APM Terminals, a subsidiary of A.P. Moller-Maersk Group, has been awarded the construction and 30-year operation of the new Laldia Container Terminal at Chattogram Port. Under a public-private partnership (PPP), the company will invest 6,700 crore BDT in the project.
On Monday (November 17), the contract signing took place at a hotel in Dhaka between APM Terminals and the Chattogram Port Authority (CPA). The agreement was signed by APM Terminals Vice President Marten van Dongen and CPA Chairman Rear Admiral Syed Mohammad Moniruzzaman.
The ceremony was chaired by PPP Authority CEO Chowdhury Ashik Mahmud Bin Harun. Special guests included retired Brigadier General M. Sakawat Hossain, Maritime Advisor; Denmark’s State Secretary for Trade and Investment Lina Gandlose Hansen; Denmark’s Ambassador to Bangladesh Christian Brix Moller; and Maersk Board Chairman Robert Maersk Uggla.
It was announced that the Laldia Terminal is expected to become operational between 2028 and 2030. According to the agreement, APM Terminals will handle the design, financing, construction, and operation for 30 years.
The project will play a key role in increasing the country’s port capacity and facilitating international container trade.
