Due to an ongoing dispute regarding the New Muring Container Terminal at Chittagong Port, the High Court today (Thursday) ordered that all activities under the contract remain suspended until the case is resolved.
The High Court bench, led by Justice Fatema Najeeb, issued the directive verbally. During the hearing, the government assured the court that no activities related to the contract would proceed until a final verdict is issued.
Earlier, on 30 July, a writ petition was filed challenging the legality of the contract between Chittagong Port Authority and a foreign company to operate the terminal. The petition was filed by Mirza Walid Hossain, president of the Bangladesh Youth Economists Forum.
The High Court’s order means no new operations or handovers can take place at the port under the contract until the court decides the matter. Experts believe the suspension provides a fair pathway to resolve ongoing disputes and legal complexities.
