Chadwick Boseman Honored with Star on Hollywood Walk of Fame

On Thursday in Los Angeles, a star was unveiled on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in honor of the late American actor Chadwick Boseman. The day was officially declared “Chadwick Boseman Day.” Friends, co-stars, family, and fans attended the ceremony.

Viola Davis, co-star of Boseman in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, director Ryan Coogler of Black Panther, and Boseman’s wife Taylor Simone Ledward delivered emotional speeches.

Davis said she still cannot believe Boseman is gone. “I can’t even use the word ‘death’ when thinking about him,” she said. She recalled how during the filming of Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, Boseman seemed to be searching for the deeper meaning of life, aware that his time was limited.

Davis added, “Today I celebrate him. May the angels guide him to peace. The light he ignited in my work and purpose continues to guide me.”

Coogler spoke emotionally, calling Boseman a symbol of leadership, teaching, and generosity. He recalled how during the 2015 promotion of Creed, Boseman quietly met him in his hotel room to discuss Black Panther. Coogler said, “I asked how he came through so much security. He just smiled and said, ‘That’s the Panther’s job.’”

Finally, Boseman’s wife Taylor Simone Ledward spoke, honoring his artistry and dedication. She unveiled the star alongside his two brothers, Derek and Kevin Boseman.

Chadwick Boseman passed away at age 43 in 2020 from colon cancer. He gained worldwide fame portraying T’Challa in Black Panther and earned praise for portraying legendary figures such as Thurgood Marshall, James Brown, and Jackie Robinson. The new star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame ensures his legacy lives on in the hearts of fans.
