The OC stated that based on the verified complaints, a case has been filed against the professor under the homosexuality law. He is scheduled to be presented in court this Friday afternoon (December 14). Earlier, he was detained at his residence in Sheora Para, Dhaka, at 11 PM on Thursday (November 13) and is currently being interrogated at the police station.
Associate Professor Saifuddin Ahmad, Dhaka University’s Proctor, told reporters that since the professor was off-campus, university permission was not required to bring him to the police station, although the administration was informed.
According to media reports, several chemistry students claimed to have been subjected to personal sexual harassment by Professor Halim. One student alleged that the professor repeatedly called him to his home under the pretext of helping with exams and subjected him to physical and mental abuse. Another student reported that the professor touched various parts of his body and caused severe psychological distress.
The university administration has emphasized that student safety and justice are their priorities. Police are conducting a thorough investigation to verify all aspects of the case. The incident highlights the urgent need to ensure safety and ethical standards on university campuses.
