BNP Warns: Any Decision Outside July National Charter Is Government’s Responsibility

The BNP has stated that if the government makes any decisions outside the July National Charter, it will bear full responsibility. Signatory political parties are not obliged to comply with such decisions.

The statement was made by Khondokar Mosharraf Hossain, member of BNP’s National Standing Committee, during a press conference at the party chairperson’s office in Gulshan on Tuesday (11 November).

Before the press conference, BNP’s standing committee held a meeting on Monday night, presided over by acting chairman Tarique Rahman. The press conference was organized to announce the committee’s decisions.

In his prepared statement, Khondokar Mosharraf said that the July National Charter was drafted over nearly a year of discussions facilitated by the National Unity Commission and signed on 17 October. All parties are committed to its implementation under the constitution and law.

He added, “Recently, some advisers of the interim government have hinted at decisions outside the charter, which is misleading and contrary to consensus. We clearly state that any decisions or announcements outside the July National Charter are the sole responsibility of the government, not any political party.”

Answering questions from journalists, he said, “Various conspiracies are underway regarding the electoral process. Those unable to participate in elections are trying to create unrest. We urge the government to take cautious steps.”

Also present at the press conference were standing committee members Mirza Abbas, Abdul Moin Khan, Nazrul Islam Khan, Ameer Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, Salauddin Ahmed, and Major (Retd.) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed.

BNP leaders said they would announce new programs in the coming days based on the progress of charter implementation and the political situation.
