In Gazipur, a joint operation led to the arrest of the brother and nephew of Basan Thana BNP President Tanvir Siraj with a large quantity of domestic weapons and cannabis. The operation was conducted on Wednesday (29 October) night in the Naojor area of Gazipur City Corporation under the leadership of the 14th Field Regiment Artillery from Gazipur Army Camp.

The arrested individuals are Taslim Siraj (54) and his son Mushfiq Siraj (27). Both reside in Ward No. 13, Naojor area of Gazipur City Corporation, and belong to the Haji Sirajul Islam family.

Police and local sources said that based on a secret tip-off, the joint forces raided Taslim Siraj’s residence late at night. During the search, a large quantity of weapons and cannabis was recovered from their home.

The seized items include 8 large knives, 19 small knives, 5 large machetes, 5 small machetes, 2 sickles, 5 ramdas, 1 straight ramda, 27 imitation diamonds, and cannabis.

After the operation, the two were handed over to Basan Police Station.

Acting Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Basan Police Station, Md. Shaheen Khan, said, “The two were arrested during the joint operation. Weapons and drugs were recovered from them. A case under the Arms and Drugs Control Act is being processed against them.”

Locals stated that Taslim Siraj’s family has held influence in the area for a long time. However, recent allegations of various illegal activities against them prompted increased scrutiny by the authorities.

The incident has created tension in the area, though additional police forces have been deployed to maintain order.
