The 74th Miss Universe competition has begun in Thailand, featuring participants from 121 countries. Various events and activities are being held, and voting in several categories is already underway.

Bangladesh is represented by crown-winning model and actress Tanzia Jaman Mithila. In the ‘People’s Choice’ category, she had received 192,313 votes by last Wednesday 8 PM, placing her third. Later, she advanced to second place by early morning. Voting continues until 19 November.

Mithila is also leading in other categories: ‘Best National Costume’ (1st), ‘Miss Congeniality’ (2nd), ‘Best Evening Gown’ (2nd), and ‘Best Skin’ (3rd).

After finishing the Phuket event, Mithila is now in Pattaya. She told Prothom Alo, “I couldn’t believe the votes. My body shook, and tears came. The support from my country and colleagues has deeply inspired me.”

She added, “Winning requires both votes and judges’ decisions. My performance in every event has been strong, and with the support of my country, I hope to bring good news to everyone. Over 60,000 votes came in just Tuesday alone—an unprecedented position in Bangladesh’s Miss Universe history.”

Miss Universe Bangladesh posted on Facebook, “We need about 25,000 more votes to reach second place. Bangladesh is indomitable; vote for Bangladesh!”

Tanzia Jaman Mithila won the Miss Universe Bangladesh title in 2025. She also won nationally in 2020 but could not compete internationally due to COVID-19 restrictions. Her efforts, combined with nationwide support, are propelling her toward success on the Miss Universe stage.
