Staff Reporter | PNN:
To meet growing energy demand, the Bangladesh government has given policy approval to purchase liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Aramco Trading Singapore Private Limited on a short-term basis through a government-to-government (GTG) agreement.

The decision was made at the 37th meeting of the Economic Advisory Council in the Cabinet Division Conference Room on Wednesday (12 November), chaired by Economic Advisor Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed. The proposal was submitted by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources. The purchase will follow Section 68 of the 2006 Public Procurement Act and the 2025 Public Procurement Regulations.

Four other important proposals from the ministries of Commerce, Information and Communication Technology, Energy and Mineral Resources, and Shipping also received policy approval.

The Commerce Ministry proposal approved the disposal of vehicles older than five years through auction. The ICT Ministry proposal received approval for a PPP-model e-waste management plant at Kaliakoir Hi-Tech Park in Gazipur.

The Shipping Ministry proposal approved a PPP-model concession agreement between Chittagong Port Authority and Denmark’s APM Terminals B.V. to establish and operate Laldiya Container Terminal at Chittagong Port. The project will run for 48 years, with a primary concession period of 33 years and an additional 15-year extension.

The government hopes these initiatives will play a key role in meeting the country’s energy and infrastructure needs and positively impact economic activities.
