Hollywood star Jennifer Lawrence has not only dazzled on the red carpet but also become a prominent part of the ongoing promotion of valuable jewelry at international auctions. Her recent appearance at the Governors Awards in Los Angeles is a prime example.

As a Dior brand ambassador, Lawrence wore an off-shoulder white silk gown designed by Jonathan Anderson. However, attention was drawn to her rare 1987 diamond earrings, valued between $300,000 and $500,000. Designed by American jeweler Joel Arthur Rosenthal, these earrings are set to be auctioned at Sotheby’s in New York next month.

This was not the first time Lawrence wore auctioned jewelry. Earlier this month, she appeared at the New York premiere of her new movie Die My Love wearing a gold necklace with enamel detailing by David Webb, valued between $25,000 and $35,000. This too will be auctioned at Sotheby’s.

Sotheby’s has previously lent jewelry to many celebrities, including Rihanna and Priyanka Chopra Jonas, which later sold for record prices at auction. Experts believe that due to a decline in high-value art sales, Sotheby’s is now trying new strategies to attract audiences and buyers. Promoting auctioned jewelry through celebrities is part of this strategy.

According to research firm ArtTactic, sales in the high-value art market have declined over the past three years due to inflation and global instability. Historic auction houses like Sotheby’s are thus leveraging celebrity popularity to explore new opportunities.
