Allegation of Assault on Assistant Proctor by Student Leader at Gobiprabi

An allegation has been made against Jahir, the vice president of the student wing at Gopalganj Science and Technology University (Gobiprabi), for assaulting Assistant Proctor and Assistant Professor of the Department of Agriculture, Md. Ariful Islam. The incident occurred on Friday, October 31, at around 12:30 AM in front of the university’s main gate.

Eyewitnesses reported that several students were consuming drugs near the Mural Complex. When members of the proctorial body approached, the students fled. At that time, Assistant Proctor Ariful Islam detained one student and began questioning him about drug use. Jahir, the student wing vice president, arrived at the scene, became enraged, attacked the assistant proctor, pushed him, and helped the detained student escape.

Following the incident, Jahir told those present in the proctor’s office, “A teacher cannot detain a student outside the university. I could not tolerate the humiliation of the student.”

Meanwhile, Assistant Proctor Md. Ariful Islam stated, “We suspected several students of drug use and went to the west side of the Mural Complex. We detected smoke and the smell of drugs. When we tried to catch one student, Jahir came and angrily freed him from my custody.”

Proctor Associate Professor Dr. Arifuzzaman Rajib declined to comment but mentioned, “The matter will be brought before the university’s Regent Board on Monday. The Regent Board will make a decision regarding this incident.”

This incident has raised concerns about student-teacher relations and campus security at the university.
