The Bangladesh Shop Owners’ Association has announced that all shops, commercial establishments, and shopping malls across the country, including Dhaka, will remain open on Thursday, November 13. This was stated in a press release issued on Wednesday, November 12.
The release added that all commercial activities will continue as usual. However, a political party has announced a nationwide “lockdown” on the same day, which has already led to incidents of arson and grenade explosions in some areas.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sheikh Md. Sajjat Ali said 552 people have been arrested so far to ensure public safety. He warned citizens not to provide shelter to strangers and to report any suspicious individuals to the police.
Senior Home Advisor Jahangir Alam said the government is on high alert and will not tolerate any terrorist activities. The BGB and other law enforcement agencies have been deployed to prevent any sabotage during the lockdown.
Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser, Shafiqul Alam, stated publicly, “Strict law enforcement will be ensured. No one will be spared.”
